Brown Bags ASCoT Bucks in Inaugural Cowtown Sprint Nationals!
Lonnie Wheatley, KENNEDALE, Texas (October 11, 2008) – Brian Brown's first weekend of O'Reilly American
Sprint Cars on Tour National series competition as both car owner and driver paid dividends in the form of
the Inaugural Cowtown Sprint Nationals championship following a stirring victory in Saturday night's 35-lap
main event.
And, the Grain Valley, MO, racer snared the $5,000 winner's share in dramatic fashion to boot, wrangling
the lead away from current series points leader Jason Johnson as the white flag flew over the high-
banked, ¼-mile Cowtown Speedway clay oval.
Brown held on over the final circuit to secure a narrow win over Johnson, with Nebraska teen Jack Dover
rallying from ten rows deep to claim the show position.
Brown led the feature field to the green flag from the pole position aboard his Ostrich-powered Super
Clean No. 21 Maxim and paced the opening round in front of fellow front row starter Jason Johnson after
the initial start was waved off.
Brown's early lead was short-lived however, as Johnson charged by on the topside of the track to take
command on the second round.
Pursuing an eleventh ASCoT National win of the year, Johnson reached lapped traffic by the seventh
round as he slipped away from Brown, with Kenneth Walker, Nick Smith and Gary Wright dicing for third.
With the leaders navigating heavy lapped traffic, Zach Chappell replaced Smith in the top five by the 15th
circuit only to have 19th-starting Dover take fifth away from Chappell by the time the race's first caution
flew after 17 rounds for Eric Baldaccini's stalled mount in turn one.
Three more cautions slowed the proceedings over the next half dozen rounds, including one for a turn
three spin by Chappell, with Dover blasting past Walker for fourth along the way and then taking third away
from Wright by the 23rd lap.
While Dover and Wright swapped the third position a pair of times behind the leaders, Brown moved in on
Johnson's tail tank once again following the race's final caution after 31 rounds for Travis Rilat.
Johnson again set sail as action resumed and appeared to be destined for victory lane until moving to the
upper reaches of the track on the 34th lap. Johnson's lead quickly vanished as Brown took quick
advantage, pulling alongside exiting turn four on the low side and into the lead as the white flag flew.
Brown surged in front through turns one and two on the final circuit and worked the final corners to
perfection to become the 14th different driver of the year to post an ASCS National Tour victory through 29
nights of action.
Brown's fourth career ASCS National Tour feature win came in front of Johnson, who settled for runner-up
honors in Lanny Row's Wesmar-powered The Shop Motorsports No. 41 Eagle after leading 32 of the 35 laps.
Dover, the 18-year-old ASCS Midwest Region champion from Springfield, NE, climbed 16 positions to finish
third in the Eckley-powered 3D Auto Transport No. 53 Eagle, with Wright fourth in the Wesmar-powered
Richwood Construction No. 9 Maxim.
Wayne Johnson earned Hard Charger honors by racing from 22nd to round out the top five in Mike and Tim
Hammers' Fisher-powered H&H Enterprises No. 94 Maxim, with Kenneth Walker, Nick Smith, Ray Allen
Kulhanek, 23rd-starter Gary Taylor and Brian McClelland completing the top ten.
McClelland earned his second consecutive American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region
championship with the tenth place finish, earning the title by a scant seven-point margin over eleventh-
place finisher Kolt Walker.
Matt Covington, Chappell, Baldaccini, Garry Lee Maier, Kulhanek and Brad Welborn each posted heat race
victories on Saturday night, with Trey Robb, Billy Melton and Jack Dover victorious in the "B" Mains.
Chad Wilson got upside down in turn four in the third heat race and was done for the night.

10/10/08: OPENING NIGHT - COWTOWN SPRINT NATIONALS
Punch Pulls O'Reilly ASCoT Surprise in Cowtown Prelim!
Lonnie Wheatley, KENNEDALE, Texas (October 10, 2008) – Aussie native Gavin Punch picked a prime time
to capture his first career O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National feature win by wiring the field in
Friday night's Inaugural Cowtown Sprint Nationals 30-lap preliminary feature event.
Punch held off persistent advances from the talented trio of Brian Brown, Gary Wright and Jason Johnson
to secure the win atop the high-banked Cowtown Speedway clay oval, with those four locked into Saturday
night's $5,000 to win Cowtown Sprint Nationals finale.
"Man, that track was so fast tonight," a breathless Punch explained to the crowd from victory lane. "I've
gotta thank my parents so much for this one, they just went back to Australia a few days ago, they've put so
much into this though and this couldn't have happened without them."
Racing out of Collinsville, OK, Punch made it into the feature redraw by virtue of winning the second of six
heats for the stacked 45-car field and drew the front row outside.
Campaigning in the ASCS ranks since 2001, Punch outgunned polesitter Ryan Hall for the point at the drop
of the green flag and never looked back in his 21st career ASCS National Tour feature start. But, he didn't
need to look; he could hear them.
"I knew they were on me, I was just concentrating on hitting my marks each lap."
After barely making it to the checkered flag to win his heat race with an ailing engine, Brian Brown moved
from fourth to second at the outset following an engine change. Brown turned up the pressure on the
leader prior to the midway point and never let up.
Punch held steady though, never opening the door wide enough for Brown to slip through as he raced to
the checkered flag with a car-length advantage in the Down Under Motorsports No. 81au J&J.
"I was holding my breath those last few laps, I was ready to see the checkered flag," Punch commented.
Brown settled for runner-up honors in his Wesmar-powered Super Clean No. 21 Maxim, although not
without challenges from four-time and reigning ASCS National champion Gary Wright.
Wright, who himself fought off several strong bids from Jason Johnson including a wild slider through
turns three and four in the final circuits, took the show position in the Wesmar-powered Richwood
Construction/Whiteco Commercial Funding No. 9 Maxim.
Johnson maintained his lead grip on the $50,000 championship points race by claiming the fourth and final
lock-in position aboard Lanny Row's Wesmar-powered The Shop Motorsports No. 41 Eagle.
Wayne Johnson worked forward a handful of positions to round out the top five in Mike and Tim Hammers'
Fisher-powered H&H Enterprises No. 94 Maxim, with Nick Smith and 13th-starter Travis Rilat in sixth and
seventh, respectively.
Topeka's Dusty Murray survived an oil leak in the race's closing stages to claim eighth in his ASCoT
National debut, with Justin Melton the top finishing American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region
contender in ninth. Fellow ASCS Sooner Region shoe Matt Covington climbed from 16th to complete the
top ten, with Zach Chappell earning Hard Charger honors by racing from 20th to eleventh.
The feature was interrupted just once, with the caution flying on the fifth lap when Ryan Hall surrendered
the third position by coming to a stop in turn four.
Koby Barksdale, Punch, Brown, Jason Johnson, Hall and Nick Smith topped heat race action, with Gary
Taylor, Covington and Eric Baldaccini winning the "B" Mains.
The red flag appeared for the only time during the night when Cy Conditt climbed a wheel and flipped in
turn two in the fifth heat race. Conditt was shaken but otherwise uninjured.
The Inaugural Cowtown Sprint Nationals featuring the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series
concludes on Saturday night, with action going green at 7:00 p.m.

It's a Kolt 45 Night in ASCS Gulf South Go at Cowtown!
Lonnie Wheatley, KENNEDALE, Texas (August 23, 2008) – West Texas shoe Kolt Walker corralled his first
career American Sprint Car Series feature win by wiring the field in Saturday night's 25-lap ASCS Gulf South
Region main event at Cowtown Speedway.
The ASCS Sooner Region title contender became the 12th different winner of the season in ASCS Gulf
South Region competition as the series completed its 17th event of the season with a first-time stop atop
the high-banked, ¼-mile Cowtown Speedway clay oval.
"I was getting tired of all the second's and third's and getting on my head, we've done that a lot lately so
this is nice," the 25-year-old Walker commented afterward. "That car was working great and it seemed like
the harder I drove it the better it worked."
After earning a heat race win, Walker drew the pole position for the feature event. He took full advantage
by pacing all 25 circuits aboard the ASI-powered Texas Moon No. 45k Maxim.
The biggest threat to deny Walker his first win appeared to be past ASCS National champion Travis Rilat,
who was on the charge from 11th starting position. Rilat had climbed five positions by the fifth lap and was
fourth by the tenth round.
Rilat wrestled third away from Brandon Berryman at the midway point and was working on Eric Baldaccini
for second when he clipped an infield tire exiting turn two on the 19th lap. A lap later, Rilat stopped with
front end damage. Rilat rejoined the chase after quick repairs, but the distance to make up was too great.
Walker raced to the checkered flag over the final six-lap charge unchallenged, with Baldaccini securing
runner-up honors after taking the position from Michael McNeil four laps into the race.
Reigning ASCS Gulf South champion Brandon Berryman moved atop the point charts by claiming the show
position, with Kevin Ramey and McNeil rounding out the top five.
Dalton Steed posted his top finish in ASCS action by crossing the stripe in sixth, while Claud Estes earned
Hard Charger honors by racing from 18th to seventh. Gary Watson was eighth, Rilat rebounded for ninth
and John Ricketts completed the top ten.
The initial attempt to start the feature was waved off when sixth-starter George White spun in turn one
with Darrell Fletcher tumbling down the frontstretch in the ensuing scramble.
After starting eighth, Trey Robb blitzed to third by the completion of the second lap only to bring out the
caution moments later when he slid too high in turn four and tagged the wall.
After winning Friday night's feature at Heart O' Texas Speedway, Greg Rilat surrendered the series points
lead when he was caught up in a "B" Feature tangle in which both Chris Sweeney and Brian Parker got
upside down.
Robb, Walker, White and McNeil topped heat race action for the 36-car field, with J.P. Bailey and Terry
Monroe winning the twin 12-lap "B" Mains.

Brown Bags ASCoT Bucks in Inaugural Cowtown Sprint Nationals!
Lonnie Wheatley, KENNEDALE, Texas (October 11, 2008) – Brian Brown's first weekend of O'Reilly American
Sprint Cars on Tour National series competition as both car owner and driver paid dividends in the form of
the Inaugural Cowtown Sprint Nationals championship following a stirring victory in Saturday night's 35-lap
main event.
And, the Grain Valley, MO, racer snared the $5,000 winner's share in dramatic fashion to boot, wrangling
the lead away from current series points leader Jason Johnson as the white flag flew over the high-
banked, ¼-mile Cowtown Speedway clay oval.
Brown held on over the final circuit to secure a narrow win over Johnson, with Nebraska teen Jack Dover
rallying from ten rows deep to claim the show position.
Brown led the feature field to the green flag from the pole position aboard his Ostrich-powered Super
Clean No. 21 Maxim and paced the opening round in front of fellow front row starter Jason Johnson after
the initial start was waved off.
Brown's early lead was short-lived however, as Johnson charged by on the topside of the track to take
command on the second round.
Pursuing an eleventh ASCoT National win of the year, Johnson reached lapped traffic by the seventh
round as he slipped away from Brown, with Kenneth Walker, Nick Smith and Gary Wright dicing for third.
With the leaders navigating heavy lapped traffic, Zach Chappell replaced Smith in the top five by the 15th
circuit only to have 19th-starting Dover take fifth away from Chappell by the time the race's first caution
flew after 17 rounds for Eric Baldaccini's stalled mount in turn one.
Three more cautions slowed the proceedings over the next half dozen rounds, including one for a turn
three spin by Chappell, with Dover blasting past Walker for fourth along the way and then taking third away
from Wright by the 23rd lap.
While Dover and Wright swapped the third position a pair of times behind the leaders, Brown moved in on
Johnson's tail tank once again following the race's final caution after 31 rounds for Travis Rilat.
Johnson again set sail as action resumed and appeared to be destined for victory lane until moving to the
upper reaches of the track on the 34th lap. Johnson's lead quickly vanished as Brown took quick
advantage, pulling alongside exiting turn four on the low side and into the lead as the white flag flew.
Brown surged in front through turns one and two on the final circuit and worked the final corners to
perfection to become the 14th different driver of the year to post an ASCS National Tour victory through 29
nights of action.
Brown's fourth career ASCS National Tour feature win came in front of Johnson, who settled for runner-up
honors in Lanny Row's Wesmar-powered The Shop Motorsports No. 41 Eagle after leading 32 of the 35 laps.
Dover, the 18-year-old ASCS Midwest Region champion from Springfield, NE, climbed 16 positions to finish
third in the Eckley-powered 3D Auto Transport No. 53 Eagle, with Wright fourth in the Wesmar-powered
Richwood Construction No. 9 Maxim.
Wayne Johnson earned Hard Charger honors by racing from 22nd to round out the top five in Mike and Tim
Hammers' Fisher-powered H&H Enterprises No. 94 Maxim, with Kenneth Walker, Nick Smith, Ray Allen
Kulhanek, 23rd-starter Gary Taylor and Brian McClelland completing the top ten.
McClelland earned his second consecutive American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region
championship with the tenth place finish, earning the title by a scant seven-point margin over eleventh-
place finisher Kolt Walker.
Matt Covington, Chappell, Baldaccini, Garry Lee Maier, Kulhanek and Brad Welborn each posted heat race
victories on Saturday night, with Trey Robb, Billy Melton and Jack Dover victorious in the "B" Mains.
Chad Wilson got upside down in turn four in the third heat race and was done for the night.

Punch Pulls O'Reilly ASCoT Surprise in Cowtown Prelim!
Lonnie Wheatley, KENNEDALE, Texas (October 10, 2008) – Aussie native Gavin Punch picked a prime time
to capture his first career O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National feature win by wiring the field in
Friday night's Inaugural Cowtown Sprint Nationals 30-lap preliminary feature event.
Punch held off persistent advances from the talented trio of Brian Brown, Gary Wright and Jason Johnson
to secure the win atop the high-banked Cowtown Speedway clay oval, with those four locked into Saturday
night's $5,000 to win Cowtown Sprint Nationals finale.
"Man, that track was so fast tonight," a breathless Punch explained to the crowd from victory lane. "I've
gotta thank my parents so much for this one, they just went back to Australia a few days ago, they've put so
much into this though and this couldn't have happened without them."
Racing out of Collinsville, OK, Punch made it into the feature redraw by virtue of winning the second of six
heats for the stacked 45-car field and drew the front row outside.
Campaigning in the ASCS ranks since 2001, Punch outgunned polesitter Ryan Hall for the point at the drop
of the green flag and never looked back in his 21st career ASCS National Tour feature start. But, he didn't
need to look; he could hear them.
"I knew they were on me, I was just concentrating on hitting my marks each lap."
After barely making it to the checkered flag to win his heat race with an ailing engine, Brian Brown moved
from fourth to second at the outset following an engine change. Brown turned up the pressure on the
leader prior to the midway point and never let up.
Punch held steady though, never opening the door wide enough for Brown to slip through as he raced to
the checkered flag with a car-length advantage in the Down Under Motorsports No. 81au J&J.
"I was holding my breath those last few laps, I was ready to see the checkered flag," Punch commented.
Brown settled for runner-up honors in his Wesmar-powered Super Clean No. 21 Maxim, although not
without challenges from four-time and reigning ASCS National champion Gary Wright.
Wright, who himself fought off several strong bids from Jason Johnson including a wild slider through
turns three and four in the final circuits, took the show position in the Wesmar-powered Richwood
Construction/Whiteco Commercial Funding No. 9 Maxim.
Johnson maintained his lead grip on the $50,000 championship points race by claiming the fourth and final
lock-in position aboard Lanny Row's Wesmar-powered The Shop Motorsports No. 41 Eagle.
Wayne Johnson worked forward a handful of positions to round out the top five in Mike and Tim Hammers'
Fisher-powered H&H Enterprises No. 94 Maxim, with Nick Smith and 13th-starter Travis Rilat in sixth and
seventh, respectively.
Topeka's Dusty Murray survived an oil leak in the race's closing stages to claim eighth in his ASCoT
National debut, with Justin Melton the top finishing American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region
contender in ninth. Fellow ASCS Sooner Region shoe Matt Covington climbed from 16th to complete the
top ten, with Zach Chappell earning Hard Charger honors by racing from 20th to eleventh.
The feature was interrupted just once, with the caution flying on the fifth lap when Ryan Hall surrendered
the third position by coming to a stop in turn four.
Koby Barksdale, Punch, Brown, Jason Johnson, Hall and Nick Smith topped heat race action, with Gary
Taylor, Covington and Eric Baldaccini winning the "B" Mains.
The red flag appeared for the only time during the night when Cy Conditt climbed a wheel and flipped in
turn two in the fifth heat race. Conditt was shaken but otherwise uninjured.
The Inaugural Cowtown Sprint Nationals featuring the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series
concludes on Saturday night, with action going green at 7:00 p.m.

It's a Kolt 45 Night in ASCS Gulf South Go at Cowtown!
Lonnie Wheatley, KENNEDALE, Texas (August 23, 2008) – West Texas shoe Kolt Walker corralled his first
career American Sprint Car Series feature win by wiring the field in Saturday night's 25-lap ASCS Gulf South
Region main event at Cowtown Speedway.
The ASCS Sooner Region title contender became the 12th different winner of the season in ASCS Gulf
South Region competition as the series completed its 17th event of the season with a first-time stop atop
the high-banked, ¼-mile Cowtown Speedway clay oval.
"I was getting tired of all the second's and third's and getting on my head, we've done that a lot lately so
this is nice," the 25-year-old Walker commented afterward. "That car was working great and it seemed like
the harder I drove it the better it worked."
After earning a heat race win, Walker drew the pole position for the feature event. He took full advantage
by pacing all 25 circuits aboard the ASI-powered Texas Moon No. 45k Maxim.
The biggest threat to deny Walker his first win appeared to be past ASCS National champion Travis Rilat,
who was on the charge from 11th starting position. Rilat had climbed five positions by the fifth lap and was
fourth by the tenth round.
Rilat wrestled third away from Brandon Berryman at the midway point and was working on Eric Baldaccini
for second when he clipped an infield tire exiting turn two on the 19th lap. A lap later, Rilat stopped with
front end damage. Rilat rejoined the chase after quick repairs, but the distance to make up was too great.
Walker raced to the checkered flag over the final six-lap charge unchallenged, with Baldaccini securing
runner-up honors after taking the position from Michael McNeil four laps into the race.
Reigning ASCS Gulf South champion Brandon Berryman moved atop the point charts by claiming the show
position, with Kevin Ramey and McNeil rounding out the top five.
Dalton Steed posted his top finish in ASCS action by crossing the stripe in sixth, while Claud Estes earned
Hard Charger honors by racing from 18th to seventh. Gary Watson was eighth, Rilat rebounded for ninth
and John Ricketts completed the top ten.
The initial attempt to start the feature was waved off when sixth-starter George White spun in turn one
with Darrell Fletcher tumbling down the frontstretch in the ensuing scramble.
After starting eighth, Trey Robb blitzed to third by the completion of the second lap only to bring out the
caution moments later when he slid too high in turn four and tagged the wall.
After winning Friday night's feature at Heart O' Texas Speedway, Greg Rilat surrendered the series points
lead when he was caught up in a "B" Feature tangle in which both Chris Sweeney and Brian Parker got
upside down.
Robb, Walker, White and McNeil topped heat race action for the 36-car field, with J.P. Bailey and Terry
Monroe winning the twin 12-lap "B" Mains.
